Ords slightly (0.21%) lower on below-average volume and losers dominate breadth stats by 1.8:1: sector indices mixed. The NZSE50 closed with a gain of 0.5% for the day. In Japan, the Nikkei225 has added 0.5% so far; Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is down 0.9%.The KOSPI has lost 0.2% so far today.

The following economic data was released during the session:

  • Gross Domestic Product q/q for 3Q was released in Australia; the series posted a reading of 0.2% a decline of 0.4 from the prior reading of 0.6% – less than the market’s pre-release guess of 0.4%.
  • Gross Domestic Product y/y for 3Q was released in Australia; the outcome was 0.5% a drop of 0.1 from the prior reading of 0.6% – less than the consensus estimate of 0.7%.

The ASX Small Ordinaries (XSO) The small end of the market had significantly worse day than its large-cap counterpart. The Small Ords slid modestly, falling 15 points (0.6%), closing out the session at 2495.3 points.
