US stock markets were closed so that the country's livestock could celebrate a foundation myth.
Prior to the early futures close, Dow futures were down 181 and S&P futures were down 24. Both have further to fall after the action of European bourses. Gold had hit 1194ish and oil was off about $1.70 and the US dollar was helped by some 'flight to safety' idiocy, adding a cent and a half against both the Euro and the Aussie.
